Boasting of over 2 lakh schools and 60 thousand universities, the Govt of Uttar Pradesh has proved yet again its commitment to education as it announced SAKSHAM scholarships to provide financial support to students pursuing higher education.

As the pandemic interrupted teaching as well as the economy across the country, the Yogi Government’s announcement of various scholarships under SAKSHAM shows its commitment to ensuring continuity in higher education at different levels in the face of current adversity, especially providing respite to households whose income has been significantly impacted by the pandemic.

The Uttar Pradesh Government offers various scholarships annually for students belonging to General/ SC/ ST/ OBC categories as well as various other minority groups. These scholarships offered by the Government of Uttar Pradesh can be broadly classified into four categories –

1.) Pre- Matric Scholarship for students enrolled in classes 9 – 10.

2.) Post- Matric Scholarship for students enrolled in intermediate (classes 11-12).

3.) Post- Matric Scholarship for students other than those enrolled in intermediate, i.e., Graduation, post-graduation, Ph.D., or higher-level education.

4.) Post- Matric Scholarship for students enrolled in higher education – Graduation, Post Graduation, Ph.D. or higher level, in other states/ outside Uttar Pradesh.

These scholarships are available to the students belonging to financially stressed households to encourage them to pursue higher education and break the cycle of poverty and deprivation.

UP Scholarship Rewards and Benefits

Yogi Govt has made attempts to empower students from economically weaker section of the society to pursue higher education through the financial aid provided by the government. Apart from being. Financial support the scholarship also make students self-dependent, confident and gives them a sense of achievement which in turn helps them to perform better. Thus, apart from direct monetary/ financial support the scholarship also provides psychological and social support to socio-economically backward students.
